Impulse eyes lead to impulse buys

Some people have a tendency to overindulge. To not know when enough is enough. To over order, and over eat. When you have a menu with no “strict” courses, it can be tempting to take the lot. But why? Why do some of us make the mistake of over-ordering?

The bigger the bag, the harder they fall

Perhaps it’s the fleeting moment of being there, in that specific place with that specific person. By grabbing more of the menu, we try to grab more of the moment. We try to grab more of the experience. Perhaps instinctually we feel that a menu is a guilt free offering from the chef to us. We feel like nothing can be wasted.

What $25.99 gets you at most Melbourne cafe's

We should be mindful and understand what triggers our desires to indulge. We should know what causes us to overextend ourselves beyond our needs. We should be mindful that those same triggers will make us purchase that extra item in an online shop. They will make us book that list minute holiday, or make that last second upgrade. Not that these things are wrong, but we should be mindful when they occur so we can control them when we want to.

Where does the sauce come from in a self-saucing pudding?

When you under-order, you leave room for dessert. You leave room for more. You leave room for tomorrow, for the next time you come back to that place. You leave room to head somewhere else, to new and exciting adventures.

  3. So very true. We need to be present with ourselves and definitely in the moment when making decisions. A budget is also very helpful boundary we give ourselves before spending money or our time. Thanks Alex appreciate your post.
