Is there anything else?

There is a trick in customer service, to never hang up the phone first. Just because you’ve solved their first problem, doesn’t mean they don’t have a whole lot more ready to unload upon you. Imagine if you did this in sales, where you stopped selling more products once the customer bought the first thing they came in for. You would be leaving heaps of money on the table. So when we do it in customer support, we leave customer satisfaction on the table.

There’s an old trick where no matter how they try and end the conversation, you always ask, is there anything else? Not only will it make them feel listened to, but you’ll ensure that you never miss out on they’re full list of problems and desires. This simple question means you always capture everything you need the first time around.

As your schedule fills up and the time between seeing friends gets longer, make sure you don’t leave anything behind. Ask yourself the same important question, is there anything else? Anything else you want to ask, or need to share. Don’t leave things left unspoken, don’t leave a story untold.
