Eat until you burst!

It’s the season to embrace good friends and bad habits. The holiday period is a really exciting time for most people. A period of the year to catch up with family, friends and loved ones. It’s also the time of year that we often end up in worse shape than we started. So how can we help ourselves stay in shape and keep up with holiday tradition?

Nothing better than ham sandwiches for 5 weeks post Christmas

A simple way is to up your activity intake. Plan hikes, walks or simply just leave the car a few steps further away from your destination than usual. Be a bit more flexible with your workout schedule as friends and family can pop in at often unexpected times. It is a time of year where your dedication to activity or lack thereof is tested. But if you can, push yourself to do more and not less. Activity can offset more of the diet grievances, and if you’re lucky you may end up looking tanned and fit (for those readers in the southern hemisphere).

For those that have dietary restrictions it can be a tough time of year. It’s important to manage your needs, and if you’re unsure if you’ll be provided for in a way that you require, there’s no harm in bringing something that everyone can have (including yourself). Get some workouts in when and where you can, even at the expense of convenience. It’s always worth it. I have found that movement is the best medicine for eating too much ham and turkey.
