Chase your nose
One of my favourite things to do is take a walk off the beaten path with my nose to the wind. What do you smell? Can you tell from which direction? Can you see it? There is a whole world that we barely get a glimmer of, one which dogs and most other animals get to experience on a level we could never imagine. Our limited sense of smell has been further dulled by the smog of the city lifestyle we live. We live primarily an indoor life, hidden from air movement across our face and the hidden wonders it can carry.
I bet this guy know's what I'm talking about |
How wonderful is the smell of rain after a hot day. How fresh is the salty sea breeze rolling over the hills. You can feel through your nose, travelling your mind and body to far off lands with only a smell. Our nose is one of our greatest survival instincts, warning us of danger and awarding us bounties that our eyes can’t see. So how can we reclaim one of our most important senses?

We can smell deeper. We can reflect on what we smell and how it makes us feel. We can become more conscious of our senses and how they interact. How does a fragrance change your sense of taste? How does it make you flinch or recoil from something? There are billions spent every year in the fragrance industry, with casino’s, shops and fast food retailers all trademarking their own unique scents. Creating a stronger relationship with our senses makes us more mindful of ourselves and our surroundings, and will allow you to take back control of what you smell and the way it makes you feel.
