Unexpected visitors

We enjoy living in planned, consistent and predictable routines. Since covid we have become very accustomed to a structured way of living. Certain days in the office, certain days here, there. A time to meet friends, a time for personal time. I remember a day where we used to go to people’s houses not knowing if they were even home. We used to go from house to house, picking up a ragtag crew of mates on bikes as we travelled around. There was no knowing who would be part of the motley gang on any given day. There’s a real sense of adventure that comes with seeing people spontaneously.

This guy looks fun!

There’s something fun about an unexpected visitor, putting everything you had going on to the side and immersing yourself with their time. It’s sometimes nice being put on the spot, throwing caution to the wind and just going with the flow. It’s something we need to do more of. Nobody said they didn’t enjoy that last minute holiday, or didn’t have great stories from an impromptu night out. There’s an awesome montage of fun in the movie ‘yes man’ that I’m sure wasn’t too hard to think of -
spontaneity is fun by default.

You never know when you might need some korean

Even if you don’t feel as crazy as showing up to someone’s house unannounced, asking who is immediately available to see you can be a fun experiment. Sadly, even though most people are free, they will struggle with accepting your invitation on the spot. It’ll be accepted later in the day, or tomorrow, or next week. We need to become more than our routine, to go outside of our comfort boundaries and live the next moment fully present and available.
