Litmus test of humanity
Do you put your trolley back where it belongs? Do you spend that extra minute or two to perform your civic duty? There is no punishment for not putting it back. There are no fines, nobody to take you away. But you should put it back, everyone knows it’s the right thing to do. Like leaving some food for another person, or not cutting in line. These are the things that separate us from an ordered civilization and chaotic primal behaviour. The trolley is the ultimate litmus test of humanity.

There are some moments that are reflective of who we really are. Some moments when the lights are off and nobody sees us. When we find out what happens to the bear in the woods. It’s how we train when nobody’s at the gym. Or how we treat those when nobody is around. It’s how we hold ourselves when the camera’s are down and social media is a come and gone trend. It’s important to hold ourselves to the same standards we hold ourselves around others.
In case you didn't understand what I was referring to |
It’s important to reflect on how we act when we are alone. Are we good citizens? Do we do the right thing when it matters? There are a percentage of people who don’t really care about others. They don’t believe they need to put their trolley back. They can come and go and believe they’ll be looked after. A misguided approach. These people always claim bad luck, as they go from problem to problem in their lives. Maybe it would all be different if they just put their trolley back where it belongs.
