Make a day of it

In a time of clickbait, momentary excitement, and action-in-a-can, it can be nice to make something more of our little moments. Of blowing a little adventure way out of proportion and taking it to the extreme. Instead of going for a walk, go for an all day adventure hike. A swim can turn into a beach party. A board game can become a multi-table tournament. A gathering can turn into a weekend getaway. There’s something magical about going overboard by adding in just a sprinkle more of everything.

I'm sure there's gold somewhere

When we make a day of it, we squeeze the most fun out of our moments. Time allows us to explore things in spiritual detail, to appreciate ourselves and the things around us. As a kid we would do the same thing over and over until we were physically unable to do it any more. It can be an incredibly immersive experience when we spread what can normally be done in an hour or two over a full day.

Is this a warning or an invitation?

Life is full of games, puzzles and adventures. We can play with a single friend or a whole room full. There is a child-like wonder that we feel when we completely immerse ourselves in hours of activity. Of being exhausted and doing it all over again the next day. So pack your weekends full of activity, full of life. Take something and make it more.
