Repurposing gives a new perspective

These days, it’s often cheaper to replace something than it is to fix it. But what about the joy it can bring to repurpose, to find new meaning for something used. There is such an honest,  rewarding feeling that comes from seeing something with a new lease on life. The old fishing rod? Maybe it turns into part of a decorative art sculpture. A broken printer? It could make a great display case. Chair legs? Maybe they turn into a washing line. Imagination is our only limit.

Do you think this water feature is in tune?

Using something for a different functional perspective can give you a completely new perspective on how and what things are designed for. It can give us reflection on the true foundational purpose of things, as most function of an object comes from the materials they are made with. Is something conductive, malleable, or can it be used to fortify a barricade? Can it be used to hold water?  Can you reshape or resize it to fit another space? What can you turn from run-down to new.

Not sure you could get pulled over for drink driving in this

Most of our best innovations come from invention. They come from using what we already had in a completely new arrangement, for a new purpose, expanding our knowledge base and commercial industries. The materials are already here, we just need to think outside the box.
