Be still, command power
When you watch great speakers, whether they be prime ministers or presidents, celebrities or school principals, watch how still they are. How unbothered they look by heat, wind, bugs or an unruly audience. Watch how stillness commands power, radiating out of them, and over their audience. Watch them captivate when they present, keeping everyone listening to every word. When you want to appear powerful, be still. Be unmoving against discomfort.
Maybe not that still |
Keeping body movements slow, will keep your mind slow. Your mind responds to your body, and your body responds to your mind. They are yin and yang, and can either create adrenaline or control it. Breathing techniques are available to ensure the mind and body are in sync. They can create a full sense of peace, and enable continuity between action and reaction. So when you want to be slow, breathe slowly. When you want to be still, hold your breath. Your mind will be led by the body, just as much as the body can be led by the mind.
He knows a few things about breathing |
Be still when you want to look strong, and move around if you want to look weak. When you squirm or wriggle, even subconscious movements, people will quickly feed off your unease. If you constantly look around for an escape, people will shorten their conversation with you, and look for the door. Use both methods when you need to command your audience and win your negotiations.
